Euthanasia

Euthanasia may be an option after taking into consideration your pet’s diagnosis, treatment options, response to treatment and most importantly, the quality of life (QOL). Euthanasia can be a very humane choice when your pet is not responding well to treatment and its quality of life is in decline. That is to say, it no longer enjoys the daily things that gave them pleasure – food, spending time with you for cuddles or lap time, laying in the sunshine.

Your pet will have an IV catheter placed in its leg, where the injection will be given. Sometimes, your pet may be sedated to help with anxiety. It will be given an IV injection of a strong drug that is simply an overdose of anesthetic that sends them off “to sleep” very quickly and painlessly.

No, unfortunately, we are not licensed to perform house calls.

You are welcome to be present during the euthanasia. At the clinic, we have a comfort room that is more private for you to take your time saying farewell to your pet.

While the clinic itself does not have any bereavement counselling, we can provide different resources available when and if needed.
